A Missed Chinese New Year

It's the Chinese tradition to travel back home to celebrate Chinese New Year as one big family. Every year, Grandma cooks lots of mouth-watering dishes, abalone, fresh fish, fresh prawns, lots of fresh vegetables, 猪肚汤 (pork intestine soup), roast pork, steam chicken, etc. It is a culture to strengthen the bonds between all family members who might meet once a year due to the distance between each other. Chinese New Year has always been my favourite festival as I could meet all my favourite uncles, aunties, cousins and most importantly my beloved grandparents all in one roof but this year... will be the first time I'm absent from the Chinese New Year reunion dinner...

Going away is hard. But arriving and living in a country not your own is beautiful and thrilling. A new country gives a person a new identity, a new start. You recreate yourself. You have the freedom to be anyone because people don't judge you based on your past. As we get older, opportunity like these decreases, so I  treasure this opportunity very much. Missing the wonderful food and people is the price I have to pay in order to get this opportunity and I had made myself a promise, this will all be worth it!

Again, I miss the Chinese New Year back home badly. It made me reminisced the taste and smell of the delicious food, the noises in the house, the exchange of wishes to one another, spending time catching up with cousins, playing pranks with firecrackers, children running around ( maybe not so much nowadays with Ipads and Consoles). Although sometimes, I received questions that I can't really answer and pressure of being compared with other cousins, I still enjoy the moments, the moments of seeing everyone smiling.

But I shall not linger around this state of mind. There are lots of things to be done over here. I am here with a mission. Let achievements and possessions play a central role in my life, new routines shall be forged, new bonds shall be made and a new future awaits me.

Happy Chinese Year to everyone who are celebrating and may the horse year brings prosper, happiness and good health to everyone. Thank you for reading and let me know how did you celebrate your chinese new year or are you in the same situation as me? Let me know! I am more than delighted to read  and reply your comments. Cheers and gong hei kangkung Choi!

Best Musical Performance I ever seen!

THE COMMITMENTS

WoooHoooo Yeahhhh Babeeee!!!! Ladies and Bollocksmen! Lets get your working hand clapping together! Shake your head round and round... Now STOP! Mustang Sally!!!

Yeah! Tonight is a fun night. both of us ( Jesse, my roommate in Victoria League, London and I ) went to watch a musical show called THE COMMITMENTS. People at my age probably don't know, it's actually based on a movie from 1991 which is 2 years before I was born! So the Irish performing team put up a musical show for the story and perform it at Palace Theater, London. We got the tickets for £11 for a balcony ticket. Some of you might think the balcony is a shitty seat to watch a performance, well, its a musical show, you don't really need to pay much attention to the details, just sit back and enjoy the music!

I could actually tag this as the BEST MUSICAL PERFORMANCE I EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! Its really that good. Well, do note its my first time in London even if it could be better, it still worth the money, definitely. If I have the money, I will surely go for it again. London haven't stop surprising me yet!
